Residents of Ngbuelia Ndele in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State have been thrown into panic following gruesome murder of four people by gunmen suspected to be cultists in the community in the early hours of Tuesday.

PM NEWS learnt that among those killed were two brothers identified as Onyema and Ejike Kekwaru.

Two of those killed were beheaded and their remains were openly displayed at a market square in the village.

Sources in the community linked the dastardly murders to clashes between suspected members of Deygbam and Iceland cult groups.

An eyewitness said the gunmen who invaded the community in a Sienna bus and a motorbike had notified vigilante operatives in the community about the impending attack.

The sources named the victims as Endurance Nmekini, a member of Emohua Vigilante Service, EMOVIS, and two brothers, Onyema Kekwaru, and Ejike Kekwaru and another person who was also a member of the disbanded OSPAC.

According to eyewitnesses, there was no security presence in the community at the time the incident and happened

The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the attack and the killing of four people.

SP Koko disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Polycarp has ordered tactical units to be deployed to the area with a view to arresting the perpetrators while investigation is ongoing.

Recall that Dr Chidi Lloyd,the Chairman of Emohua local government had disbanded the OSPAC Vigilante because of persistent complaints about alleged abuse of human rights and involvement of some of its members in criminal activities.
