A notorious cult kingpin, Azunda Elechi was Thursday killed in a shootout between his Degbam Cult gang and the combined team of Police and local vigilantes at his hideout in Ndele community, Emohua local government area of Rivers State.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko the spokesperson of Rivers Police Command confirmed the incident.

She said that Operatives who had been trailing the Cult gang leader received credible information that he was in his hideout at Ndele NULISI.

They swooped up on him and there was a shootout.

She added that Elechi was among those that carried out an attack at Mgbola Village, Ndele Emohua Local Government Area on Tuesday, 30th May, 2023, where four persons were shot dead.

Also, on Wednesday, 31st May, 2023, in another Police operation, one Pump Action gun and two live cartridges with three empty cartridge shells were recovered.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka Polycard, has urged parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards to as to avoid joining gangs to commit crimes.
