Seria A came under heavy criticism on Saturday after the league gave the player of the year award to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia over Victor Osimhen.
With 12 goals and 10 assists, Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo believes Kvaratskhelia deserved the award over Osimhen who is the leading scorer for the club this term and also played an important role to help them win the Scudetto.
“With 12 goals and 10 assists, Kvaratskhelia was one of the leading players for the Azzurri, who won the Scudetto and made many fans and lovers of beautiful football dream,” Daily Post and ESPN quoted Luigi De Siervo.
However, the news did not go down well with fans of Victor Osimhen.
Victor Osimhen’s fans believe the Nigerian striker was robbed and he deserved more than the striker of the year award.
Nigerian journalist Bayour Issah claimed that Victor Osimhen should have been named as the Serie A best player.
He said; ”For me and many other football fans, I want to believe that Osimhen deserves the award more than Kvaratskhelia because his goals helped Napoli to win the title.”
Another journalist known as Michael Sports said: “Osimhen was clearly robbed. With 25 goals that Victor scored this season, if it were Erling Haaland who did if for Napoli, he would have been given the award just like he got it in England. This is not fair. If I were Osimhen, I am moving away from Italy. What else do they want, he should score 200 goals?”
Eric Akan, who is also a fan of Osimhen, said: “Please spare me the playmaker nonsense, If Erling Haaland could get player of the year award above Kelvin de Bruyne, then what stops Osimhen from winning it in Italy after 25 goals. This is purely unfair to Osimhen.”
“Striker of the year is not enough for Osimhen’s contribution to Napoli, We all saw how Napoli struggled when Osimhen was injured. Napoli could get goals without Kvaratskhelia but they will struggle without Osimhen. Osimhen should leave Seria A now,” Usman Hassan stated.
