Former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has lambasted those doubting the capability of anyone other than a military officer as National Security Adviser (NSA).

According to him, “Those that say only a military man can handle the position of NSA are ignorant.”

His reaction followed condemnation in some quarters over the possible appointment of former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) who is a retired police officer, Nuhu Ribadu, as the new NSA.

The hint of Ribadu’s possible appointment was first dropped by Sen. Shehu Sani via his verified Twitter handle early Sunday.

Fani-Kayode said in a tweet on Sunday: “Amongst the best that held that position in our history were retired police and/or intelligence officers such as Umaru Shinkafi, Gambo Jimeta and Ismaila Gwarzo.

“I have no doubt that my brother Nuhu Ribadu, who is a retired police officer, once confirmed as NSA, will acquit himself well and follow in the footsteps of these three revered men. “
