Terrorists shoot 37 villagers dead in Sokoto for refusing to pay levies

At least, 37 villagers have been shot dead by terrorists in several communities in  Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The terrorists (bandits) were said to have attacked the villagers for refusing to pay the levies imposed on them.

The attack which reportedly took place on Saturday evening occurred at Raka, Raka Dutse, and Filin Gawa communities.

Daily Trust quoted the former council chairman of the area, Bashar Kalenjeni , confirming the attacks, saying 18 people were killed at Raka, 17 at Filin Gawa and two at Raka Dutse.

According to him, the communities wanted to bury those killed in the night but that the bandits came back and dispersed the.
He said the deceased had not still been buried because of the fear of the bandits.
Balenjeni disclosed that the offence of the communities was their refusal to pay levies imposed on them by the terrorists.
He explained that the insurgents imposed levies on their communities which was meant to kick-off with immediate effect, and also dictating to residents on what to and not to do.
Balenjeni said the villagers refused to succumb and that because of that, they were attacked, with 37 people killed and several others injured.
According to him, some of the villagers were still unaccounted for as at Sunday, while calling on security operatives to come to their rescue.
