Falconets to face Burundi in FIFA U-20 World Cup qualifiers

Nigeria’s national under-20 women’s football team, the Falconets, have been selected to play Burundi in the second round of FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifications in 2024.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) held the draw on Thursday in Cairo, Egypt.

As the road to the global extravaganza is now open, the draw produced some intriguing ties. Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 10, the first six nations with the lowest rankings will compete in a round-robin style.

Togo will meet Guinea Bissau, while Mauritius will face Chad. Winners of the round will advance to the second round of qualifiers.

In this round, Ethiopia will face the winner of the Equatorial Guinea-Libya match, while Senegal will face Mali.

Nigeria, a semi-finalist in the previous edition of the global competition, will face Burundi, while Ghana will await the winner of the match between Togo and Guinea Bissau.

These second qualifying round matches will take place between October 6 and October 15, with the winners advancing to the third round of qualifiers, which will take place between November 12 and November 19.

The four teams will then compete in a round-robin format to choose two African representatives to the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
