A coal miner lost his life and another went unconscious due to gas suffocation in a coal mine in Afghanistan’s northern Baghlan province on Saturday, said a statement from the provincial police office released Sunday.

The labourers were working in a coal mine in the Tala-o-Barfak district on Saturday when a poisonous gas leaked and resultantly a miner was killed and another fainted, the statement said.

It added that the fainted miner had been taken to hospital.

Non-standard mining, poor equipment and unskilled workers to extract the underground treasures, according to Afghans, often claim the lives of miners in Afghanistan.
