Pep Guardiola believes Xavi Hernandez was not given correct information concerning Barcelona’s interest in João Cancelo.
Xavi had stated that Barcelona agreed a January move with Joao Cancelo but it was blocked by Manchester City.
Cancelo moved to Bayern Munich on loan in January but according to Xavi, he could have gone to Barcelona.
“We wanted Cancelo. They offered him to us and we gave the OK,” Xavi told TV3. “In the end they tell us that Manchester City do not want him to come to Barça. That is true.”
Discussing Xavi’s statements with journalists, Guardiola said Manchester City never received a bid from Barcelona.
“We’ve not received any bid from Barça for João Cancelo — no proposals from them”
“I think they didn’t inform Xavi in the correct way on that story,” Pep added.
On Gundogan, Guardiola: “I know Barça love Gündogan and Xavi has called him many times. We want him to continue — if in the end he decides to join Barça, I will tell him that he will have a great time”.
Gündogan when asked about Barça in press conference: “Barcelona is beautiful city!”.
