Magnitude 6.4 quake rocks Gulf of California
A 6.4 magnitude earthquake rocked the Gulf of California on Sunday, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
Mexico’s civil defence office reported that there were no initial reports of damage in the locations where the earthquake was felt.
However, it advised boats and the local coastal population to exercise caution due to dangerous currents in ports.
According to EMSC, the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles).
The US Tsunami Warning System announced shortly after the quake that there was no tsunami hazard for the US West Coast, British Columbia, or Alaska.
Small differences in sea water levels of a few millimetres may be seen in the location where the quake occurred, the Mexican civil defence ministry later tweeted.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.3, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
