Edo First Lady promises prosthetic arm for woman shot by husband

Wife of Edo Governor, Betsy Obaseki, has promised to procure customized prosthetic arm for a victim of domestic violence, Mrs Tina Okhiria, whose arm was amputated after her husband shot her on the hand.

Obaseki disclosed this on Monday, when she visited the victim at the hospital, where she also made arrangements for the full payment of her hospital bills.

Mrs Obaseki assured her that arrangement has commenced for the procurement of the prosthetic arm which will take an estimated three to four months to finalise, thereby allowing ample time for her hand to heal.

This is even as she handed over Mrs. Okhiria to the officials of the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues for continuous follow-up and comprehensive support.

The Edo First Lady described the incident involving Mrs. Tina Okhiria as a stark reminder that issues of domestic violence continue to plague our society.

She urged Mrs. Okhiria to report any interference, intimidation, or harassment from any source to government officials.

She assured her that the law would take its course in the case of her husband without any external interference, adding that such incidents will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law.

“It is imperative for citizens to unite against such atrocities and provide victims with the support they need to rebuild their lives,” she stated.

Responding, Mrs. Rita Okhiria expressed immense gratitude for the Edo First Lady’s gesture and unwavering support during her difficult time.
