Aluminium fabricator who allegedly duped man of N1.7m arraigned

A 38-year-old aluminium fabricator, Yekini Tunde, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, Abuja for allegedly diverting his customer’s N1.795 million.

Tunde who resides in Sabo-Iddo Abuja was charged with criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.

The Prosecution Counsel, Dabo Yakubu, told the court that Mr Joseph Olayinka of Guzape settlement in Abuja reported the matter at Iddo Police Station on June 30.

Yakubu said that sometime in April 2023, the complainant entrusted the sum of N1.795 million to the defendant to fabricate 53 aluminium windows for him.

He said that the defendant allegedly converted the money to his own personal use without delivering the job.

According to him, during police investigation, the defendant confessed that he sent an account number bearing Vincent Okwokwo, domiciled with First Bank.

Yakubu said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Abdullahi Abdulkarim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum for further investigation to be carried out.

Abdulkarim ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case until July 25 for further hearing.
