Plateau crisis: Troops arrest over 1,000 cows, sheep grazing on farmlands

Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested over 1000 cows and sheep grazing on farmlands belonging to locals at Dumunan village in Bwai district of troubled Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State

Communities in Mangu LG of Plateau State have witnessed incessant attacks from gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in the past few weeks with over 200 villagers killed.

However, in a statement by its spokesperson, Capt. James Oya, on Wednesday in Jos, OPSH said the cows and sheep were arrested as part of the move to restore peace in communities across the local government.

According to him, preliminary investigations indicated that the cattle and sheep came from Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas.

”In our ongoing efforts to address the security concerns in Mangu, troops of OPSH have arrested over 1000 cattle and sheep grazing on farmlands belonging to locals at Dumunan village in Bwai district of Mangu LGA.

”Preliminary investigation revealed that these cattle and sheep came from Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas.

”These cattle are currently in our custody for necessary action,” he said.

Oya, however, did not confirm if the owners of the cattle were equally arrested.

The media officer reiterated the commitment of OPSH Commander, Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar to end attacks and killings in Mangu LGA and surrounding areas.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
