The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) in Kaduna has raised alarm about activities of fraudulent individuals calling for monetary donations in support of its 25th year anniversary.

According to NAOWA, the scammers have been circulating messages, banners and fliers on social media asking for monetary donations for the less-privileged and 10-km walk purportedly to celebrate its 25th year anniversary of NAOWA.

However, in a statement issued by One Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, NAOWA disowned the calls for monetary support, desiring it as fraudulent.

NAOWA gave the fraud alert in the statement issued by Acting Director, Army Public Relations of the Division, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, on Friday in Kaduna.

The statement said the attention of the Army Division has been drawn to the fraudulent activities of some dubious and criminally-minded persons in its Area of Responsibility, circulating messages, banners and fliers on social media seeking financial assistance for the less-privileged and 10-km walk purportedly to celebrate the 25th year anniversary of NAOWA.

“This is basically the activities of a fraudulent syndicate with the intention of scamming unsuspecting citizens of their hard-earned resources and other valuables,” Yahaya said, and advised the general public to disregard such calls as they did not emanate from NAOWA or any of its Chapters.

“Additionally, the general public is kindly requested to report such criminal elements and their activities to the Nigerian Army and other relevant security agencies for arrest and possible prosecution,” he said.
