Ukraine to export grain via Croatian ports on Adriatic Sea

Ukraine claims it has achieved an agreement with Croatia to export grain through Adriatic Sea ports, according to the Kiev Foreign Ministry.

The agricultural products will be delivered to Croatia through the Danube River and then transported by rail to the Adriatic Coast, according to the statement.

The amount of grain that may be shipped this manner was not stated.

Ukraine intends to use this transit infrastructure to avoid Russia’s Black Sea embargo.

This followed Moscow’s mid-July withdrawal of a grain export agreement agreed by the United Nations and Turkey.

Kiev is attempting to enhance land exports through the European Union, but some surrounding nations, including Poland, are impeding this transport route.

Many farmers in the EU are concerned about a price decline if Ukrainian grain enters the market.
