Legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon retires at 45

Former Italy goalkeeper and World Cup winner Gianluigi Buffon has announced his retirement from football at 45.

With a video showing his career highlights posted on his Instagram page, Buffon wrote, “That’s all folks! You gave me everything. I gave you everything. We did it together”.

This comes after a long list of trophies with Juventus. For many years, he was considered among the best goalkeepers in football.⁠

Although Buffon has one season left on his contract with Parma in Serie B, he will depart the sport with the same team with which he began his professional career over three decades ago.
