Kano Health Commissioner excited by turnout for polio immunisation

Kano Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has expressed happiness over the impressive turnout for ongoing polio immunization programme across the state.

The Commissioner stated this while supervising the programme in Kano Municipal Council. He listed the Council among the successful Councils where people have responded positively to the polio immunization programme.

Dr. Labaran said that his supervisory team has gone round various areas of the local Government across the state, describing the exercise as generally impressive across the state.

He expressed appreciation to the people of the area for bringing their children to the immunization centres.

The Commissioner also appreciated the staff for remaining on deck addressing issues squarely and conducting the exercise efficiently, urging them to remain committed till the end of the campaign.

Represented by the Director, General Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), Prof. Salisu Ibrahim Ahmad, the Commissioner commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for giving all the required attention to the health of the people of the state.

“The exercise is well planned. People are adequately mobilized to support the campaign. Government of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has made all provisions right from the inception up to this level. We have mitigation measures to address any arising problem, ‘ he added.

Dr. Labaran further explained that some of the mitigation measures include clusters kept as the sideline for addressing issues that may arise, teams of supervisors and vehicles to convey people to the hard to reach areas.

The Commissioner commended the district head of the area for attending evening review meetings in the local government and decried the low involvement of the officials of the local government council into the exercise, charging them to buckle up in supporting the campaign in order to record success as anticipated since there is need for collaboration of all the stakeholders.

Giving update on the logistics received, the Primary Healthcare Coordinator of the area, Aliyu Jinjiri Kiru, stated that they have been supplied with 97,700 of nOPV vaccines, 83,750 of fIPV vaccines as well as 82,800 pieces of noodles for the immunized children.

He also said that they were able to immunized 88,950 children with 45,505 nOPV vaccines and 43,445 fIPV vaccines, representing 55% and 54% respectively in 704 settlements in the local government area.

Director General, Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency Pharm. Ghali Sule; Director General, Private Health Institution Management Agency, Prof. Salisu Ibrahim Ahmad; Directors from the Ministry of Health, among others, were part of the supervision team of the Commissioner.
