Lagos recovers body of man who jumped into Lagoon from Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge

The body of a suicide man who jumped into the Lagos Lagoon from Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge two days ago has been recovered, emergency officials have said.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, told PM NEWS on Thursday that the Agency responded to a distress call when the man jumped into the Lagoon.

He said the agency gathered from passers-by that an adult male had jumped into the lagoon.

“Efforts to stop him proved abortive as he escaped from being restrained and jumped into the lagoon.

“LASWA officials were immediately alerted of the incident. Rescue attempt were abortive and the body of the unidentified adult male has been recovered and bagged by the agency’s LR,” he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the agency is now awaiting the arrival of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, SEHMU to evacuate the body from the incident scene.

On Tuesday, an unidentified man plunged into the Lagos Lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge as many onlookers were shocked.

LASEMA officials, Marine Police and other rescuers immediately began a search and rescue move which culminated in the retrieval of the man’s body on Thursday morning.
