The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) has suspended their planned strike after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) stepped in.
Mr. Ocheme Oba, General Secretary of NUATE, confirmed the development in a statement made on Wednesday in Lagos.
In a circular issued on August 15, NUATE announced that aviation security staff would go on an indefinite nationwide strike over low wages.
The circular showed that the workers are normally given a mere N30,000 monthly, stating that the wage was insufficient, causing great suffering for the workforce.
Oba said that the union informed the NCAA of its decision to go on strike in a letter.
He stated that after receiving the letter, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) stepped in and sought a week to consider the workers’ concerns.
According to the union’s scribe, the NCAA pledged to convene a meeting of the union, private security firms, and airlines.
