Former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Otunba Femi has said it would be shocking to know that 90 percent of the houses in Lagos have been bought up by sojourners.

He spoke during a lecture at the 2023 Business Luncheon Public Lecture titled “Economic Transformation and Wealth Building in Lagos”, organized by Eko Club.

Pedro also affirmed that that Lagos State is the financial capital of Nigeria because it has the largest concentration of banks and insurance companies scattered in every nooks and crannies of the state.

He added that the state since inception has been blessed with a lot of wherewithal in terms of leaders that were able to key into various advantages in the state coupled with a lot programmes and innovations introduced by the state government.

The former deputy governor, however, lamented that with all the aforementioned opportunities, it is unbelievable that the non-indigenes are mostly the beneficiaries.

He, however, tasked the new generation of Lagosians to have entrepreneurial mindset or possibly position their children in place of wealth opportunities so as to tap from the supposed wealthy background of the state or else, the supposed wealth would be carted or be fully enjoyed by the sojourners till eternity.

“Let me declare that there is no doubt that Lagos State had undergone great economic transformation and wealth building over the years, more especially due to its strategic positioning and opportunities abound.

“But it is ironical that the non-indigenes are mostly the beneficiaries. However, it is not late, but I will advise our new generation of Lagosians to start training their children now especially on how to create wealth and also have affiliation with those in political power,” Pedro said.

He also tasked Lagos indigenes to position their children in place of wealthy opportunities so as to completely remove poverty from our line of generations in Lagos State.

“It would be shocking to know that 90 percent of the houses in Lagos have been bought up by sojourners, which should be amended,” Pedro said.

Also in his remark, the 22nd President of the Club, Mr. Razak Amodu expressed commitment of Eko Club to do things according to the principle and history of Eko family, and to bring everyone together so as to talk about business which discuss ways on how lives of the members could be improved upon economically without being hurt.

He maintained that the Club has chosen the theme of the programme “Economic Transformation And Wealth Building in Lagos: The New Realities” which emphasises that the Club is not only about socialising, but to contribute to the development of the State by joining hands to tackle its economic recession as well as finding solution to series of problems militating against development in the state and the country in general.

Also in his vote of appreciation, the Honorary General Secretary, Saka Babatunde Gbajumo, expressed sincere gratitude to God and entire members, guest speakers and all invitees for honoring the invitation.

Highlight of the events include presentation of papers by guest speakers and unveiling of statue of fishermen on the Lagoon.
