Julian Alvarez scored a stunning goal on Saturday as Manchester City beat Newcastle by a lone goal at the Etihad Stadium to claim all three points.
It was a tactical game as Newcastle had more men at the back making it difficult for City to penetrate the defence.
But Phil Foden, stepping into Kevin De Bruyne’s role showed great vision to find Alvarez (Manchester with a cheeky pass inside the box, and his first-time shot was precise and sailed into the top left corner midway into the first half.
On 63 minutes, Erling Haaland took a shot on goal, but his effort was not precise enough and it flew a whisker wide of the right post.
Three minutes later, Haaland produced a ferocious strike from the edge of the box. His dangerous low effort towards the middle of the goal was blocked by Nick Pope, who pulled off a superb save to keep the ball out of the net.
Rodri wasted a good opportunity as his pass into the box was blocked by the defence late into the game.
