A defiant former US President, Donald Trump says he did nothing wrong, saying he believed the 2020 presidential election was rigged in favour of Joe Biden.

Trump spoke with reporters at the airport in Atlanta after he was released on bail by the Fulton County jail.

The former president and 18 co-defendants face a noon Friday deadline to voluntarily surrender after being criminally charged in the state’s 2020 election subversion case, but he surrendered himself on Thursday.

But before heading back to New Jersey, Trump told reporters that it was a very sad day for America that should never happen.

He said he was innocent of accusation of interfering in the 2020 presidential election.

“You should be able to challenge an election. I believe the election was a rigged election. I did nothing wrong and everybody knows it,” Trump said.

According to the former president, two Democrats who lost elections and protested the results  included Hillary Clinton who lost to him in 2016, and Stacey Abrams who lost a governor race in Georgia in 2018.

“We have every right, every single right to challenge an election that we think is dishonest,” Trump added.
