Rubiales vows to defend himself over controversial kiss

The Spanish Football Federation on Saturday said its suspended President, Luis Rubiales has vowed to defend himself over allegation of kissing Jenni Hermoso.

The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) had on Saturday suspended Rubiales over the controversial kiss.

Rubiales kissed midfielder Hermoso on the lips during the medal ceremony after Spain won the Women’s World Cup final.

According to the statement from the Spanish Football Federation, Rubiales has said he would defend himself in the competent bodies.

It said the Spanish FA boss fully trusted FIFA and that in this way, he was being given the opportunity to begin his defence.

“Luis Rubiales has stated that he will legally defend himself in the competent bodies, he fully trusts Fifa and reiterates that, in this way, he is given the opportunity to begin his defence so that the truth prevails and his complete innocence is proven,” the statement said.

On Friday Rubiales had defiantly refused to resign despite fierce criticism by other footballers, the media and even the Spanish prime minister

Earlier today the Spanish FA backed Rubiales’ version of events, threatening to take legal action against Hermoso.

It also published photos of the embrace at the time of the kiss, which it said showed the player had lifted Rubiales off the ground.
