Dr. Olusegun Bamidele Oso has been recognised as one of the top three recipients of the WATEF Impact Leadership Award 2023 following the conclusion of the WATEF International Innovation Awards.

Selected from a competitive pool of fifteen nominees, his recognition reflects a career built at the intersection of healthcare delivery, financial strategy, and long-term institutional development across West Africa.

The award highlights leaders whose work strengthens essential systems through disciplined investment, governance, and sustainable impact. According to the organisers, Dr. Oso’s career stands out for its clarity of purpose and system-level influence, shaped by a rare combination of clinical training, financial expertise, and strategic leadership.

Dr. Oso began his professional journey in clinical medicine after completing his training at the University of Ibadan. His early work in public healthcare environments exposed him to the structural challenges that influence patient outcomes, including inadequate funding, infrastructure limitations, and operational strain. These experiences shaped his understanding that meaningful improvement in healthcare outcomes required engagement beyond direct clinical practice.

This insight informed his transition into finance, advisory, and investment roles, where he sought to understand how capital allocation and institutional structure shape the availability and quality of essential services. Over time, this decision became the defining thread of his career.

He went on to work across leading corporate finance, advisory, investment banking, and private equity institutions, contributing to transactions spanning healthcare, financial services, infrastructure, and real estate. In these roles, he developed a reputation for translating complex operational challenges into structured investment opportunities, demonstrating how capital, when paired with governance and strategic clarity, can drive sustainable growth.

His influence deepened within healthcare-focused private equity, where he contributed to fund design, pipeline development, transaction structuring, and portfolio company support. He worked closely with hospital promoters, diagnostic centre founders, and healthcare entrepreneurs, supporting negotiations, governance frameworks, expansion planning, and long-term sustainability strategies. This work reinforced his view that healthcare systems perform best when financial structures encourage accountability, operational discipline, and long-term planning.

A major milestone in his career was the co-founding of the Nigeria Healthcare Development Fund. The fund was established in response to persistent gaps in healthcare financing and infrastructure, gaps that became more visible during global health emergencies. Designed as a bridge between credible healthcare operators and institutional investors, the platform supports hospitals, clinics, diagnostic providers, and allied health services seeking patient capital to scale responsibly.

Through this initiative, Dr. Oso has contributed to strengthening healthcare systems by improving access to structured financing, supporting governance improvements, and enabling modernisation across service providers. The judging panel cited this work as a key reason for his selection as one of the top three recipients of the 2023 award.

While healthcare remains central to his professional identity, Dr. Oso’s leadership also extends into mobility and clean technology. As Chief Financial Officer of a leading electric vehicle and mobility company operating across West Africa, he oversees financial strategy, capital formation, and risk management across multiple markets. His work has strengthened investor confidence, improved internal financial operations, and supported the company’s transition toward cleaner and more efficient transport solutions.

Beyond executive roles, Dr. Oso serves on boards across insurance, technology, leasing, and healthcare-related institutions. His responsibilities span audit, finance, governance, risk management, and strategic planning, enabling him to influence long-term institutional resilience and regulatory readiness.

He is also active in academic and knowledge development circles, serving as a section editor, editorial board member, and peer reviewer for international journals in management, finance, economics, and medical science. His participation in judging innovation challenges and social impact competitions further supports emerging ideas and ecosystem development across the region.

Dr. Oso’s recognition reflects a consistent narrative of leadership grounded in discipline, informed judgment, and system-level thinking. Through healthcare investment, the establishment of the Nigeria Healthcare Development Fund, and his contributions to mobility and technology sectors, he has played a role in expanding access, improving quality, and strengthening resilience across essential services.

His board service in insurance, technology, and healthcare reinforces a commitment to building institutions that protect stakeholders, support innovation, and deliver long-term value. Taken together, these contributions explain why he met the judging criteria for the WATEF Impact Leadership Award 2023 and emerged among the top three winners.

As preparations begin for the 2024 WATEF Awards, the organisation continues to encourage innovators, founders, and impact professionals across West Africa to engage with the platform. Dr. Oso’s recognition sets a benchmark for leadership that bridges disciplines and translates expertise into measurable social and economic impact.
