Kanu Nwankwo, Chairman of the Enyimba Football Club of Aba, has stated that the club under his leadership did not start badly.

Nwankwo made the remarks to reporters at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba on Sunday, following the club’s goalless draw with Al Ahli SCSC of Benghazi, Libya.

Enyimba were eliminated from the CAF Champions League after a goalless draw with Al Ahli Benghazi in Libya a week ago.

Kanu stated that while his team did not score, they played well, but that they would need to go back to the drawing board in order for the Aba-based team to achieve the expected results.

“We wanted to be at the group stage and do what we had to do but all of us know that one plus one is two but it is not so in football.

“We could not score a goal to win today, but sometimes it happens and it happens to the best team and the best players and that is football”, he said.

Kanu promised to bring in more players to strengthen the team and ensure its success.

He stated that even the best teams lose at times, emphasising that it could have been a bad start if the team had also performed poorly and lost.

The Enyimba FC Chairman thanked the team’s fans for their outpouring of support and urged them to continue doing so because Enyimba’s future looked brighter.

One of Enyimba’s star players, Joseph Atule, said the outcome of the match ruined their day.

He did, however, promise to work harder on behalf of his teammates to bring glory to the Aba side in the upcoming national league competitions.

Additionally, Wanis Kheir, assistant coach of Al Ahli SCSC Benghazi, said that the team devised a technical plan to defend their victory and succeeded.

He stated that Enyimba was a good team but could not win today’s game.

Kheir stated that his team would increase their training to ensure that they performed better in their next match.
