Kwara governor pays glowing tribute to slain Army Special Forces Commander

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazak, has paid glowing tribute to Major Segun Oni Abiodun, one of the military officers recently killed in an ambush on Nigerian troops during operations against bandits in Niger State.

The late Major hailed from Eruku town in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Governor AbdlkRazaq, in a condolence message to the family of the slain officer noted that, “Major Oni, a well-decorated and forthright army officer, was killed on August 13, 2023 alongside other soldiers as he led troops on a military operation to stamp out banditry in parts of Niger State.

“He was at various times the Platoon Commander, 72 Special Forces Battalion; Company Second in Command Armed Forces Special Forces Battalion; and Second in Command Defence Headquarters Special Operations Forces Battalion”

The Governor noted that the late Major was trained in military schools in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, Belarus, and South Africa where he won many medals.

“He won several military medals for his excellence, discipline, and hard work, including River Niger Star, Golden Jubilee Medal, Centenary Medal, and General Operations Medal,” the Governor noted.

The Governor therefore expressed his heartfelt condolences to family of the gallant officer, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Defence Headquarters over the demise of the gallant officer.

“His death represents a huge loss to the country as a whole and to Kwara State in particular”, the Governor said while praying fornrepose his soul and comfort to his family and everyone who mourned him.
