Aryna Sabalenka has reached her third successive US Open semi-final after defeating Zheng Qinwen 6-1 6-4 in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
It was the easiest Grand Slam quarter-final Aryna Sabalenka could’ve wished for.
Qinwen, 20 never got hold of Sabalenka’s serve and the Belarusian cruised through to victory.
The 25-year-old from Belarus has never gone on to play in the New York final.
Sabalenka will meet the winner of the last quarter-final between Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova and American Madison Keys.
Sabalenka was delighted with her performance, saying in her on-court interview: “I think I definitely played great tennis today. I’m super happy with the performance tonight and just gave myself a chance to do better in the semis.
“I’m going to do everything I can to stay to the end.”
“I kind of like went back to old habits on my serves. I was worried playing rallies in those important points, I learnt that I’m ready to stay in those rallies and stay in the point on those important games. I was working on my physical abilities so I’m not getting tired on court.”
