Ondo governor Oluwarotimi Akeredo returns to Nigeria after three months outside the country

Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the wife of Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, has confirmed that her husband is returning to Nigeria after spending about three months outside the country for for medical treatment.

‘Homebound,’ Betty wrote on her Facebook page on Thursday with the picture of Governor Akeredolu sitting inside a private jet accompanying the post.

The Ondo State Governor had left the country for medical treatment following weeks of speculations about his health in June.

However, the leave was later extended indefinitely by the state House of Assembly in July.

Akeredolu transferred power to his Deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in line with constitutional provisions.

Reports on Thursday had indicated that the Governor will land in Abuja from where he will later fly to the Ibadan Airport, a distance of less than 100 kilometres to Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

Some members of of the Ondo State Executive Council are already in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State to receive him.

”Our boss is back and we are happy, we are meeting and welcoming him in Ibadan and we are on our way now,” a member of the Ondo Executive Council was quoted as saying.

The source stated that most of the state executive council members were already in Ibadan to receive the governor.

Also, another source who also preferred anonymity confirmed that Akeredolu was already in his Ibadan residence.

“It is true, our governor, Arakunrin Akeredolu, has returned to Nigeria but he is in Ibadan presently.

”We will make his arrival known to the public soon,” the source said.

The source further revealed that immediate family members and friends of Gov. Akeredolu had been with him since his arrival in Ibadan to rejoice with him.
