Kyiv faced an attempted Russian drone attack early Sunday morning, with debris landing in various districts across the city.
Fortunately, Ukrainian authorities confirmed that no casualties resulted from the attack.
At least 10 explosions were reported, and air raid sirens blared, signalling residents to seek shelter in the capital.
The Chief of the Kyiv Military Administration, Serhiy Popko, disclosed that the drone attack had ignited a fire in a residential building due to falling debris.
However, swift action from emergency services successfully extinguished the flames, preventing further damage.
This incident is not the first time that Kyiv has been targeted by drones, highlighting the persisting threat in the region.
City authorities identified the affected districts as Podilskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi, all situated in or around the city centre.
Kyiv’s robust air defence system has proven highly effective in intercepting the majority of Russian drones and missiles directed at the city.
Popko revealed that approximately 20 Iranian-made Shahed attack drones had been brought down during the attack.
These drones had approached Kyiv from multiple directions before being intercepted. Most of the debris fell in open areas, but there were reports of damage to vehicles and trolleybus cables.
