Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba has been provisionally suspended from football for anti-doping offence following the results of tests carried out on 20 August.

The Italian Anti-Doping Tribunal found elevated levels of testosterone after Juve’s 3-0 win at Udinese on 20 August.

A statement from Juventus on Monday said the club received a precautionary suspension order from the anti-doping tribunal following the incident.

The statement reads: “Juventus Football Club announces that today, 11 September, 2023, the footballer Paul Labile Pogba received a precautionary suspension order from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal following the results of tests carried out on 20 August, 2023.

“The club reserves the right to consider the next procedural steps.”

Nado Italia, the anti-doping agency, said that Pogba was suspended provisionally with immediate effect. Pending a trial and testing of a backup “B” sample, he risks a suspension of up to four years.

According to Sky Sports, the news is another negative note for a player who has been bothered by injuries ever since rejoining Juventus from Manchester United a little more than a year ago.

He was ruled out of France’s run to the World Cup final last year due to a knee injury and played in only six Serie A matches for Juventus last season.

There’s also been a police investigation ongoing in France into allegations that Pogba was targeted by extortionists – including by his older brother, Mathias, who has denied any wrongdoing.
