The Police have confirmed the beheading of a 70-year-old man, Maduka Zachery, on Wednesday in Abia State by unidentified gunmen.
Zachery, who was the 2023 Campaign Director of the Labour Party in Abia was beheaded by his assailants numbering about 10 who were said to have wielded pump action guns, cutlasses, and several other weapons.
They had shot him dead at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa Community before beheading him.
Our Correspondent gathered that the victim, was the head of the Uturu community Security outfit overseeing the security of the area.
The Police Pubic Relations Officer in the state ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, has confirmed the incident in a statement.
She pointed out that Investigations are currently on going to unravel those behind the attack.
The statement read, “Mr. Nmaduka was violently attacked, shot, and beheaded by unidentified assailants while he was at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa Community.
“Upon receiving this distressing information, a joint team comprising police and army personnel were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
“Tragically, they recovered Mr. Nmaduka’s lifeless body. Photographic evidence was captured at the scene, and the deceased’s remains was promptly evacuated and deposited at Marist Mortuary Uturu”.
