Gang of hoodlums beat young man to death in Rivers

Police are in the manhunt for a gang of hoodlums who in the early hours of today, Friday, beat a yet-to-be-identified young man to death along Eliogbolo Road in Rumuodomaya headquarters of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Although the cause of the deadly attack on the victim and the identities of the attackers are unknown, some residents of the area link the incident to cult gangs.

Eyewitnesses said a detachment drawn from Rumuodomaya Division Policemen who arrived in the area search area to arrest culprits later removed the body of the man.

Residents of the area who spoke the condition of anonymity lament that in recent times the operations of several cult groups within the Rumuodomaya Slaughter Market have made the area unsafe.

Shops and business owners along Eligbolo hurriedly shut down and fled over fear of mass arrests by Police and reprisal attacks by rival gangs.

At the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command had not officially reacted to the incident.
