President Bola Tinubu had on Friday evening appointed Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Who is Cardoso? Not many Nigerians, especially the younger generation know who Cardoso is.
Here are 11 quick facts about him.
1. Cardoso is a Nigerian banker, chartered stockbroker and public policy maker.
2. He served as the former chairman of Citibank Nigeria.
3. He was the Commissioner for Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget during the administration of Tinubu as governor of Lagos.
4. Cardoso studied managerial and administrative studies at the Aston University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree.
5. He has a Master’s degree from the Harvard Kennedy School in public administration.
6. Cardoso was a member of the Cities Alliance’s Africa Think Tank Group, a group created to solve urban development challenges.
7. He has served as a board member of MRS Oil and was the chairman of the board of EFinA.
8. The new CBN Governor is a member of the advisory board of Lagos Business School.
9. He was the chairman of the board of African Venture Philanthropy Alliance.
10. Cardoso was the founding chairman and co-chair of Ehingbeti Summit, the Lagos state economic summit.
11. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in business administration by his alma mater, Aston University, in recognition of “his outstanding contributions to business and society”.
