Gawuna: declared winner of Kano election

Many markets in Kano have been shut following the ruling of the three-man election tribunal led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay.

There were also reports of jubilation by supporters of the All Progressives Congress.

The tribunal which has other members such as Justice Flora Azinge and sacked Governor Abba Yusuf of the NNPP and declared Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the APC as the winner.

The judgment was delivered via Zoom, following threats against members of the tribunal.

The judges were not physically present in the courtroom when the judgment was delivered.

Moments after the ruling, traders deserted markets such as Sabon Gari, Kantin Kwari and Singer.

The biggest shopping mall in the metropolis, Ado Bayero Mall (ShopRite), was also shut.

The tribunal found merit in the submission of APC lawyers that 165,663 ballot papers counted for Abba Yusuf in the election were neither signed stamped, nor dated.

It thus deducted the votes from from Abba’s tipping victory to Gawuna.
