MC Yanmife Lights Up Newcastle Runway with Style, Finesse, and Laughter

On the 29th of September, 2023, worlds collided at Newcastle, UK. The Newcastle Fashion Runway hosted by LagX brought together different people of diverse races of the world. It’s rooted in the meeting of the culture from the energetic streets of Lagos woven with the pulse of London, but it also makes other cultures and races etch their marks. For real, it serves as a cultural intersection where style, youth expression, and social consciousness meet.

The event, attended by over 400 people, was set in an indoor venue(the biscuit factory, Newcastle). The runway is centered, having the models exhibit their collections while the audience on either were captivated. In moments where fashion strolled the runway, many collections were presented as streetwear aesthetics with oversized silhouettes, layered garments, brave clothes, and unapologetic styling choices instead of conventional fashion wear. As they gait up and down, every model tells a story of confidence, individuality, defiance, unconformity, cultural heritage , and others.

Diversity is splendor, as it adds to the event and the stories. Models and the audience were of varied races and backgrounds, which reflected the reality of contemporary youth culture and also echoed LagX’s mission to confront issues such as racism, propaganda, and injustice in systems. Fashion became a commentary. But then, beyond the fashion, guests gathered around tables, engaged in conversation, shared the same food, and participated in leisure activities such as gaming. Here the organizers show that culture is truly holistic.

The Newcastle NDP 1.1 runway stood as the collision of worlds, beauty, defiance, and of course, fashion and connection. This is the brainchild of LAGX, but McYanmife served as the host and comedian of the event. His fantastic show of mastery and fine skills kept the show refreshing from the start to the finish. McYanmife is an “OG” in this business, and nothing less was expected by anyone present.

Emmanuel Faremi Yanmife, popularly referred as MC Yanmife, is a Nigerian-born stand-up comedian, master of ceremonies, host, and cultural entertainer with more than 13 years of experience in live entertainment. He is widely regarded for his ability to connect with audiences through humor, storytelling, energetic stage presence, and aura. His work covers stand-up comedy, event hosting, while not leaving out the planning of live entertainment experiences for different audiences.

McYanmife began his career at a young age and gradually built a strong professional reputation through consistent performances at social, cultural, and corporate events. He studied architecture at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and later continued his education at Olabisi Onabanjo University. While in university, he became famous, within the campus entertainment scene, hosting concerts, cultural programs, and student events. His work during this time also took him beyond the school environment to Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, where he performed at private and public events. He was also involved in theater and cultural projects, supporting arts groups and community-based creativity.

In 2023, MC Yanmife relocated to the United Kingdom to grow his career internationally. Since then, McYanmife has hosted wonderful events in cities such as London, Manchester, Sheffield, and Basingstoke.His work has also taken him to Albania and Morocco. In 2024, he returned to Nigeria to deliver an international comedy and live entertainment event in Lagos. He currently works with arts and cultural organizations in the UK, serves as a brand ambassador for Afriex, and co-organizes Summer Fest in Sheffield. His goal is to use comedy to create joy, unity, and shared cultural experiences.

The Newcastle Fashion Runway is another space that has told the story of cultural values and the beauty in a world where diversity isn’t separation. McYanmife’s splutter of beauty at this event will also for long be spoken of. His finesse is what keeps him above his contemporaries, and his finest nature of making people feel seen will keep him longer at this crest.
