Civil society mourns loss of Afenifere Chieftain Olusi's wife

The civil society in Nigeria is commiserating with one of its leaders, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, over the demise of his wife, Alhaja Mariam Iyabo Olusi who passed away on Saturday at age 77.

A press statement issued immediately after the incident on Saturday by the Coalition for A Better Nigeria which was signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Awa Bamiji described Alhaja Olusi’s death as painful.

“It’s so painful that our caring father, mentor and Leader of decades in the June 12 Struggles and in all progressive movements, starting from the MKO Abiola’s Social Democratic Party (SDP), to Alliance for Democracy (AD) and today, All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, has lost his darling wife and soul mate, Alhaja Mariam Iyabo Olusi.

“This is a personal loss to me again, after the death of my loving mother, Madam Rafatu Agbeke and that of my foster mother, Deaconess Florence Ibukun Famurewa and to all of us, Youths, Civil Society Organisations, Traditional, Religious and Political Classes in Nigeria.

“Death, as they say, is an inevitable end of human life. The reason why we must be mindful of our characters on a daily basis,” Comrade Awa Bamiji said in the statement.

The statement noted that Prince Olusi was the SDP Chairman in Lagos State in 1992/1993 and former Vice National Chairman, of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Southwest Zone.

He is currently the Leader of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Lagos State.

Awa Bamiji asked Prince Olusi to take solace in the fact that she left indelible footprints in the sand of time.

“It’s our prayer that God gives all of us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May Almighty Allah grant her Aljanah Firdaus,” Bamiji prayed.
