Manchester City moved top of the English Premier League on Saturday after beating Brighton 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
Their stay at the top may be temporary if Arsenal beat Chelsea later this evening.
City opened the scoring in just seven minutes into the game. A precise cutback on the goal line from Jeremy Doku found Julian Alvarez right in front of the goal, and he easily buried the ball into the top left corner.
Erling Haaland doubled City’s advantage on 19 minutes. Haaland wove his way past opponents, and he unleashed a magnificent effort from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.
Pascal Gross had a chance to score for Brighton on 52 minutes. He picked up an inch-perfect pass inside the box and fired the ball a whisker wide of the right post.
On 68 minutes, Haaland went very close. He gathered a cross inside the box and fired a shot towards Jason Steele, who produced an excellent reflex save.
Brighton pulled one back on 73 minutes. Ansu Fati fired the rebound into the bottom left corner after the ball broke to him in the box.
Five minutes into added time, Manuel Akanji was sent off after a second yellow card.
