Stella Maris Okafor, the wife of renowned actor Mr. Ibu, has strongly criticized the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) for what she believes are false claims of support.

Mr. Ibu recently celebrated his 63rd birthday while hospitalized due to an undisclosed illness.

This controversy emerged after hospital recordings circulated online, showing Mr. Ibu requesting financial assistance, leading some to accuse the AGN of neglecting its members.

In response to these accusations, the AGN’s director of communications, Kate Henshaw, issued a statement on October 20, refuting any allegations of abandonment.

According to Stella, this statement was an attempt by the AGN to salvage their reputation.

Stella asserted that, prior to her husband’s health issues, she had received no support from the AGN, despite her attempts to contact Emeka Rollas, the president of AGN. She expressed confusion as to why the guild was now claiming credit for support they hadn’t provided.

Stella noted that it was only after she publicly appealed for assistance that Emeka and Kate Henshaw visited her husband in the hospital, a move she perceived as a reaction to the public outcry.

Stella also accused Kate Henshaw of deliberately misleading both her and the public with her statement.
