Delta Central: APC’s Sen. Dafinone wins at Appeal Court

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has affirmed the victory Ede Dafinone of All Progressives Congress, APC in the Delta Central senatorial district election conducted on 25 February.

Though Dafinone won the February 25 election, according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the National Assembly Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba led by Justice W. I. Kpochi, had nullified his victory while delivering its judgment on a petition filed by Chief Ighoyota Amori.

The Tribunal had ordered a rerun in about 20 polling units to determine the winner of the election into the senatorial district between Dafinone and Amori.

However, Dafinone rejected the ruling of the tribunal and filed an appeal against it.

In a unanimous judgement delivered on Wednesday, the appellate court upheld Dafinone’s appeal.

The Court also dismissed the cross-appeal filed by the PDP candidate.

Reacting to the judgment, Senator Dafinone expressed gratitude to God. He said the ruling of the Court of Appeal affirmed his belive in the capacity of the judiciary to do substantive justice.

“Today we won at the Court of Appeal, this victory would not have been possible without God, so, we give God all the Glory, He alone deserves our praises and may His Name be praised forever.

“I also want to thank our party leaders for your invaluable support that contributed to our victory, and APC faithful, my supporters across party lines and the great people of Delta Central, this victory is for all of us.

“Our judiciary has once again demonstrated that it can do substantive justice when the need arises and indeed the hope of the common man,” he said.
