Nigerian artiste Mayorkun, whose real name is Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, has shared on Snapchat that he drew inspiration from the iconic singer and rapper Olamide.

Mayorkun, best known for his song “Cheche,” expressed how Olamide’s influence has shaped his approach to songwriting. He mentioned that Olamide taught him that quality songwriting doesn’t have to be exclusively in the English language.

Mayorkun captioned the video with the words, “Olamide is the one who made me realize that skillful songwriting isn’t confined to the use of the English language. IYKVK.”

It’s worth noting that Mayorkun gained recognition in 2016 when he covered Davido’s “The Money,” a song that featured Olamide.

His talent was discovered by Davido on X (formerly Twitter), leading to his signing with Davido’s record label, DMW.

Mayorkun’s debut single, “Eleko,” catapulted him to instant stardom. Two years later, he clinched the prestigious Next Rated award at The Headies, further solidifying his status in the music industry.

In 2021, Mayorkun decided to part ways with Davido Music Worldwide (DMW).
