The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the governorship election in Imo State.

INEC’s Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Prof Abayomi Fashina, declared Uzodimma winner of the election having polled majority of the votes and satisfied the requirement of the law.

Uzodimma won in all 27 Local Government Areas of Imo State, defeating Athan Achonu of the Labour Party and Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Uzodimma polled 540,308 votes to emerge winner of the election, while Anyanwu of the PDP scored 71,503 votes to come second while Achonu of the LP got 64,081 to come third,

The APC’s candidate polled his highest vote in Oru East, which is his local government, scoring 67,315 votes to beat Achonu, who got 3,443 votes and Anyanwu, who polled 2,202 votes.

The Imo governor also won big in Oguta LG, where he garnered 57,310 votes to defeat Anyanwu who got 2,653 votes to come second and Achonu, who scored 1,941 votes to emerge third.

Uzodimma also won massively in Okigwe, garnering 55,585 votes. Achonu came second with 2,655 votes and Anyanwu, 1,688 votes to emerge third.

The governor defeated his PDP challenger Anyanwu in his own Ikeduru LG, where he scored 22,356 votes, while Anyanwu got 7,258 votes and Achonu, 1,377 votes.

Uzodimma also defeat Achonu in his Ehime Mbano LG. He polled 6,632 votes to defeat Achonu, who scored 4,958 votes and Anyanwu, who garnered 681 votes.

Oru West also gave the governor large votes. He polled 38,726 votes to beat Achonu, who scored 1,867 votes and Anyanwu, 987 votes.
