The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday night declared Usman Ahmed Ododo, candidate of All Progressives Congress, winner of the hotly contested Kogi state governorship election.

According to the result announced by the returning officer, Ododo polled 446, 237 votes to defeat his closest rival Muri Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, who got 259,052 votes.

The election in 59 polling units next Saturday, will be superfluous as the margin of victory exceeds the votes expected to be cast.

The supplementary election at the polling units was to be held in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area (LGA), Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi and Okene.
