The National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress has suspended the ongoing strike.
The unions suspended the strike on Wednesday night following the intervention of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
The meeting with Ribadu started a few minutes after 7 pm and extended for nearly an hour.
After the meeting, different affiliates and state chapters assessed the results of the meeting and decided to call off the strike.
The National Deputy Vice-President of the TUC, Tommy Etim, confirmed the decision to suspend the strike.
“The NEC of the NLC and the TUC have suspended the strike. We did this based on our trust for the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who gave us his words,” he said.
The organized labour had embarked on a protest over the brutalization of its National President, Joe Ajaero in Imo on November 1.
The unions were also protesting against and the failure of the government to implement some of the agreements reached on October 2, 2023.
However, Ribadu announced that the individuals responsible for the brutalisation of Ajaero had been arrested.
