More pro-Palestine protesters arrested in London

Four more persons have been arrested after allegedly distributing literature featuring a swastika inside a Star of David at a pro-Palestine protest.

The group were said to have been arrested in Whitehall, Central London on suspicion of inciting racial hatred, according to local media reports.

The arrests came after thousands gathered in the streets of London to call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Protesters were marching from Park Lane to Whitehall in the latest major demonstration.

Prior to the march the Met provided leaflets that gave “absolute clarity” on what will be deemed an offence.

Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan said the leaflets set out “that anyone who is racist or incites hatred against any group should expect to be arrested”.

“We will not tolerate anyone who celebrates or promotes acts of terrorism – such as the killing or kidnap of innocent people – or who spreads hate speech,” MyLondon quoted the Metropolitan Police.

Despite the warning, several people have been arrested in the duration of the protest. Just minutes into the march the police arrested a man who was seen carrying a placard with Nazi symbols on it.

Another two women were arrested for holding offensive placards. They were part of the Hizb-ut-Tahrir protest that took place on South Street, the news medium reported.

Another man who was seen wearing a green headband with white Arabic script in Trafalgar Square was arrested. He was arrested on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organisation.

Palestine Solidarity Campaign, organisers of the march, claim that around 300,000 people joined the protest. At a previous large-scale protest on November 11, police detained over 100 pro-Palestine protesters but the vast majority have taken part peacefully.
