2 killed as boat capsizes

A six-passenger boat capsized on Wednesday near an estuary in Japan’s southwestern prefecture of Miyazaki, resulting in the deaths of two, including the boat’s captain.

Shortly after 3 p.m. local time, the Miyazaki Coast Guard received an emergency call reporting a fishing boat had overturned at the Oyodo River estuary in Miyazaki city, with people drifting offshore.

According to the local fire department, all six men in their 30s to 60s were rescued, but two fell into critical condition and failed to survive.

Authorities were investigating the detailed cause of the accident.
