Protest trails abduction of 'some' students by gunmen at FULafia

Students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) embarked on peaceful protest on Thursday after gunmen abducted a yet-to be ascertained number of their colleagues.

The students who lamented persistent spate of kidnapping around the school obstructed free flow of traffic in Lafia/Makurdi road for many hours.

However, the students dispersed after intervention of security operatives.

The students were abducted in Gandu community near the university, Mr Abubakar Ibrahim, Head of Information and Public Relations of the FULafia, indicated.

According to him, the incident happened outside the premises of the FULafia and for now, the management of the institution cannot ascertain the numbers of students abducted, their names or 1departments.

Also, DSP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, said for now the information about the kidnapping incident is still sketchy.

The PPRO added that the command had unsuccessfully tried to get facts and the identities of the victims.

Nansel, however, explained that DCP Shettima Muhammed, Acting Commissioner of Police in the state, had deployed adequate security patrol around the university to maintain law and order and to protect the area.
