Vice President Kashim Shettima has highlighted Agricultural revolution as a solution for the country’s instability and poverty.
The former governor made the remarks during a presentation at the Al-Hikmah University’s 13th convocation lecture in Ilorin, Kwara.
Shettima delivered a presentation titled: “Addressing Nigeria’s Food Security Challenge Through Hi-Tech Approach: The Role of Nigerian Universities,” where he said deploying technology to provide food security for the country’s rising population could be realized.
He emphasized the importance of education and training for the country’s population to fully benefit from the expanding influence of technology in all facets of human existence.
“It is only when Nigeria begins to think boldly about revolutionizing production, processing, and guaranteeing sustained food security that it can identify sectors of the nation’s agricultural assets that are most likely to benefit from the application of technology.
“Nigeria’s future can be secured by agricultural revolution through imaginative and bold leadership, a secure and peaceful environment, and a sound education system that does not reduce the limit of the citizens to only the sky.
He stated that Nigeria could minimize its reliance on the rest of the world if it could employ everyone seeking work.
The vice president pointed out that Nigeria has no reason to be among the world’s ten richest countries, stressing the importance of establishing a realistic inventory of the nation’s assets and liabilities.
