JUST IN: Court restrains Wike's 27 lawmakers from using Rivers Assembly complex

The Rivers State High Court presided over by Justice D.M Danagogo, has restrained the Martin Amaewhule-led 27 lawmakers from using the State’s House of Assembly complex pending the hearing and determination of a suit brought before it by the Ehie-led faction of the state legislature.

The Court also restrained the Amaewhule-led lawmakers from disrupting the functions of the factional Speaker Ehie from performing its legislative duties pending the determination of the suit.

The Court, presided over by Hon. Justice M.W Danagogo also issued an order restraining the Amaewhule-led faction and his deputy Dumle Maol from gaining access to the Assembly complex along Moscow Road, in a suit No. PHC/3030/CS/2023.

The Court also warned against the use of thugs and police officers to forcefully gain access to the premises of Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.

The injunction was obtained by I.D Iboroma, SAN, with A.B. Ihua-Maduenyi and others as counsel for Ehie and others.

The injunction “restrained the further use of the assembly complex, Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, which was burnt by fire that engulfed the assembly complex on the 29th October 2023.

The Court also said that when the case is found or adjudged to be frivolous the plaintiffs/claimants are to pay N50 million.

The court ordered that the injunction be served through substituting means or publishing in at least two national dailies or published in the area where the defendants were last seen.

The matter was adjourned to 21 December, 2023 for motion on notice.
