Grammy-winning afrobeats artiste Temilade Openiyi also known as Tems, has opened up about a distressing experience involving death threats due to false rumors of her being pregnant by American rapper Future.
This false speculation circulated after a video suggested she had a baby bump, prompting her to clarify on social media that she wasn’t expecting a child.
In an interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, Tems disclosed the unsettling aftermath of these rumors, sharing that she faced harsh criticism and threats through direct messages on social media.
Despite her professional collaborations with Future and Drake, including the Grammy-winning song “Wait For U” with Drake, she emphasized she had never met Future in person, deeming the rumors entirely unfounded.
She said: “When I heard that I was pregnant, I didn’t actually think anybody believed it. I didn’t know it was serious until I started getting messages like death threats, like, ‘How dare you? Of all the people in the world, Future, really?’ And I’ve never met him in my life. So it’s crazy.”
