The Supreme Court has upturned the verdict of the Court of Appeal which acquitted and discharged the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu of the treason case brought against him by the Federal Government.
According to the Supreme Court, the fact that he was illegally brought back to Nigeria from Kenya after jumping bail, did not strip the Federal High Court of the jurisdiction of hearing the case.
The Supreme Court in the judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim but prepared by Justice Garba Lawal, specifically said the unlawful abduction of Kanu from Kenya was what he could challenge in a civil matter instead of contesting the jurisdiction of the trial court to hear his matter.
The apex court then ordered Kanu to go and defend himself of charges of terrorism preferred against him.
