The Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, has revealed that the health of two veteran Nollywood actors, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu and Amaechi Muonagor who have been hospitalised for sometimes now are fast deteriorating.
Giving an update on the health of the two actors, Dr Emeka Rollas, the AGN National President told journalists that Mr Ibu has recently undergone another leg surgery, which affected his speech.
He added that the association’s concern is not only for Mr Ibu but also for Amaechi Muonagor, who has been hospitalized at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Anambra State, for more than two months.
Dr Rollas described the condition of both actors as distressing, noting that Muonagor’s health has severely declined, leaving him a mere shadow of his former self.
Previously, Mr Ibu‘s family had revealed that he underwent numerous surgeries and had one of his legs amputated in a bid to prolong his life, with plans for further treatment abroad.
In an update to Vanguard, Dr Rollas expressed a sense of helplessness, stating, “We are resigning to fate concerning the two actors. As I speak with you, Mr Ibu hardly talks again and he has undergone another leg amputation.”
He highlighted Muonagor’s condition, describing his legs as entirely paralysed, and urged the public, fans, and compassionate individuals to unite in supporting the actor during this challenging time.
“You will shed tears if you see Amaechi Muonagor now, his legs are completely paralysed. I’m calling on all fans and well-wishers of the actor to join hands with other philanthropic Nigerians to support him in this dire time,” Rollas said.
Dr Rollas also said N250,000 from the AGN Trust Fund has been transferred to the ailing actor’s account, acknowledging that more assistance is necessary.
He encouraged young actors to consider signing up for the AGN’s Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Insurance programs to take care of likely future health challenges.
